Container Inspection 01:(Name of The Component)

     An inspector should have a basic knowledge of the design and construction of containers. There are various types and sizes of containers accommodating different needs.

    We discuss here about the most common type of Steel Dry Van(closed) 20ft and 40ft containers.



   The vital structural load-bearing part of container is called 'Frame'.



Construction of container:

       A) Front end frame:

1) Transverse front header (front top rail).  

2) Transverse front sill (front bottom rail).

3) Two corner post.

4) Four corner fitting. 


        B) Door (or Rear) end frame:

1) Transverse door header (rear top rail).

2) Transverse door sill (rear bottom rail).                       

3) Two corner post. (Each corner post has an inner post and J-bar).

4) Four corner fitting.


     C) Longitudinal top side rails and bottom side rails which join the end frame together. 

     D) Transverse Crossmembers joining between the bottom side rails and supporting the floor.


        E) 40 ft container is fitted with a gooseneck tunnel:

1) Tunnel plate.

2) Tunnel Bolster.

3) Tunnel rails.

4) Outriggers

5) Tunnel stiffeners.

 

        F) Panel:

1) Front panel.

2) Door panel.

3) Left side panel.

4) Right side panel.

5) Roof panel.

6) Ventilators. (On some side panels).

 

        G) Other components:

1) Forklift pocket.

2) Threshold plate. (crash)

3) Two doors.

4) Hinge. (Blade, bush, pin, lugs)

5) Locking bar/rods.

6) Locking bar Bracket.

7) Locking bar Guide.

8) Locking bar Cam.

9) Cam keeper.

10) Locking bar Handle.

11) Handel retainers.

12) Handle catches.

13) Door gasket.

14) Gasket retaining strips.

            15) Lashing fitting.
